Not Your Typical Summer Shade

Who says blondes have more fun? Not everyone is lightening up for summer. This year, rich color is in. Katherine Heigl and Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas are both part of the celeb contingent keeping it dark.

Celebrity hairstylist Jason Medina is responsible for keeping Fergie's hair shiny and fresh on her tour this summer. He uses L'Oreal Professionnel Richesse Demi-Permanent Professional Haircolor to create her gorgeous chocolate-y locks. "The formula I used was one-half 5.0 and one-half 6.0 Richesse," says Medina. "I used it only on her roots and left it on for 20 minutes. For stylists who want to recreate the look, I would also add a gloss to make sure the hair looks healthy and shiny."

Fergie's not the only one. Katherine Heigl is another Hollywood cutie going against the grain, darkening her locks to rich brunette. "I would say going brunette for summer could be the beginning of a new trend. It's nice to switch up and go with the unexpected," says Medina.
