Green Day's "American Idiot" album was pop culture smash when it was released in 2004 and it's since sold more than 14 million copies worldwide. They took it up a notch this past spring with a Broadway rock opera based on the music, which has racked up multiple Tony Award nominations and two wins. With style as a big part of the show, keeping up with the punk hairstyles on stage is not an easy task.

Hairstylist Kevin Maybee has been in the industry for more than 25 years and he's proven he's up for the challenge. When he's not working on Broadway as the Master Stylist for American Idiot, he's working at Hair Off Broadway, the Southern California salon he owns with his sister, Sherri.

Styling the cast of such a high-energy production requires not only a calm demeanor to manage the backstage bedlam, but also a set of products that can do a task quickly. Maybee swears by Pravana. "When you're working backstage, time and versatility are of the essence," he says. For this reason, he especially likes Super Shape Hair Spray and Finishing Mist.

"They allow me to shape, mold, spritz and spray different hair types and textures for a variety of styles that require relatively quick changes. Because the products impart such gentle hold, hair can be brushed out and restyled for the next scene, in no time flat," says Maybee. Since it's not only the actors that get a workout, but also their hair, a post-show Deep Hydrating Hair Masque is a must, as are Chroma Silk Vivids for high-impact color in pink, purple and magenta hues.
