Now is the time to start helping clients liven up their dull winter colors, and Matrix Artistic Color Director Patrick McIvor sees two trends perfect for any client-blond, brunette or redhead.

"This spring and summer, bright, abstract, bursts of color that defuse towards the base of the hair shaft will be very in. The look started this fall with Fergie, Megan Fox and Taylor Swift-they all had highlights that were brightest and lightest through the ends and defused to the base color well before reaching the scalp," explains McIvor. "The abstract bursts create great texture and can be created all over like Taylor Swift and Kate Hudson, or randomly placed like Fergie and Megan Fox."

Client more of a one-tone girl? McIvor suggests making a statement with rich, dark, copper brown-it's great for woman with warm skin tones, like Scarlett Johansson, Ashley Simpson and Julianne Moore.

McIvor uses the Matrix SOCOLOR Mocha Café collection for his base colors for both styles. "I love Mocha Café for both blonde and brunette shades. With the ability to lighten with SOCOLOR and enhance or tone with Color Sync, the Mocha Café colors are spot on with fashion."
