You as Blogger: The Live Show

You’re really lucky where hair education is concerned, because you’re forever both student and teacher. I’m always encouraging you to take hair styling classes, but from your clients’ point of view, you’re the full professor on hair and beauty! Why not make the most of that as they sit in the “classroom”—your chair?

Last week I had the pleasure of presenting a short program at my local chamber of commerce’s monthly “Women in Business” lunch. As one of three presenters advising the business owners on how to increase their companies’ online presence, I spoke about blogging. I wasn’t surprised that questions afterward focused on the difficulty of finding the time to write a blog and of the writing process itself.

That’s why you’re so lucky! Having a captive audience as you work, you already have the time allotted, and you can deliver your “blog” verbally. Each month, develop a brief exploration of any relevant topic, and then educate your clients one at a time. Maybe this month you’ll talk about the upcoming holiday season’s prettiest updo’s—have some photos on hand—and next month you’ll go into a chemical explanation of why hair needs periodic conditioning treatments. You have so much knowledge; you’ll never run out of topics in this ever-changing industry. Your clients will think you’re just making conversation, but what you’ll really be doing is marketing your products and services while establishing yourself as the authority on looking great! Welcome to blogging!
