When I was doing the Goldwell/KMS/Arrojo On Tour in NYC, one of my favorite people, Maggie Mulhern, asked me what my favorite movie was as a professional hairstylist. I had two answers at the time – “Vidal Sassoon: The Movie” and “Unzipped” (the Isaac Mizrahi movie) both for different reasons.

If you currently don’t have a five year strategy plan, stop what you’re doing and start planning. Having a strategic plan is essential to having a long rewarding beauty industry career.

I fudge the truth because it is often an insult. Truth has no concern nor does anything for a client’s comfort.

In February I posted a blog on how to open a barbershop right, right now. I shared the experiences of a friend who was opening a shop in what was (and still is) a tough economic climate. I outlined what I saw him doing that I believed to be the right things to be doing at the time. It has been six months since he opened. It was time for a visit and an update. I stopped in to see him last week.
