Be ready to recognize the freshly minted hairstyles that came down the runway looking street-confident and refreshingly right at the Fall/Winter 2014 Fashion Weeks of the Big Four -- New York (NYFW), London (LFW), Milan (MFW) and Paris (PFW).

MILKMAID BRAIDS

Whether they’re called bohemian or baroque, these chunky braids surfaced throughout the collections. For Temperley London (LFW), Malcolm Edwards and the L’Oreal Professional team started the braid at the side of the head and widened it into a wide plait. At Giles Deacon (LFW), Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck’s braids were fuzzy, loose and slightly Old World.

CENTER-PARTS AND PONYTAILS

Chanel (PFW) paraded flat, smooth center parts and full ponytails enlivened with strips of multicolored yarn-like fabric. At John Rocha (LFW), Bumble+Bumble presented center parts and messily low-slung ponytails. Luke Hersheson, for Roksanda Ilinic (LFW), paired a low-riding pony at the nape of the neck, and polished it with a neat, neutral cloth headband.

DEEP SIDE-PARTS

For Holly Fulton (LFW), James Precis twinned a deep side-part with a sleek ponytail. Eugene Souleiman and Wella Professionals fashioned a side-part and added a messy ballerina bun at the Ports 1961 (MFW). At Prada (MFW), the hair was long or bobbed short and draped smoothly over the forehead. The delicately perforated fabrics of Christian Dior’s collection (PFW) were offset by long hair parted on the side and swept cleanly across the forehead.

FLOWING HAIR

James Precis for Morrocanoil let long hair flow freely with volume and movement at Blumarine (MFW), accenting the models’ clean, unmade-up faces. At Marchesa (NYFW), the styles were also long and loose. Maria Grachvogel’s (LFW) collection was accented by Frederico Glezzi’s side-parted hair and a long tumble of loose waves.
