Does it matter what the salons dispense/break room looks like? None of the customers can see it and rally do they peak inside. Many salons may also use it as a break room to help their stylists take a quick rest from their busy schedules. Your employees may keep their handbags, personal stuff, retail storage, cell phones, and yes, more importantly mix color there. Then why is it important to organize it and keep it clean?
Although you normally may not give it a second thought, the appearance of your dispense/break room is important for your salon, staff and customers. Even though the dispense may not be considered useful space or a money maker for your salon it is still an extension of your salon and must be treated as you would anywhere else in the salon.
If your staff and or clients expect to come into your salon and see it beautiful, then go into a dispense/break room area that’s a mess, it could cause your staff and clients to have second thoughts about you and your salons business. It can be hard for someone to look beyond the clutter and see what you may be mixing and putting in their hair.
It needs to be organized and clean. It should be painted and neatly stacked, labeled and ready to use. Shelves should be installed for inventory and lockers if you have the room for personal items. Cabinets are an easy fix for storage of unused color or back bar items. Things strewn about or piled up in haste in a hap hazard fashion result in waste. A tidy color area will not only keep your stylist on their toes they will also be prone to use less color if everything is marked and organized, neat and clean. Haste makes waste and a mess only promotes being messier.
It is often relatively easy to make a difference in the appearance of your dispense/break-room. Neglecting this space is a mistake. The main objective is to ensure that this area is clean, tidy and welcoming enough that it doesn’t distract from the rest of your salons areas. Putting in some simple rules with your salons team will ensure that your dispense/ break room looks like any other area in your salon. More important is the fact that your entire salon is a reflection of you the manager or owner. If your salon is neat, clean and beautiful your staff will be more likely to be proud of where they work, respect your salons equipment and always be on their toes when it comes to keeping things tidy.
