 Christyn M. Nawrot
I started out in this business like many stylists do: styling and cutting my dolls’ hair, which progressed into cutting my own hair. Much to my mother’s dismay, my first real clients were my little brothers. However, my mother noticed the hair cuts I gave my brothers were pretty darn good, encouraging me to seek out new test models—more family and friends. Through high school I styled and cut many heads of hair for school dances, proms and weddings. In college I was known in my dorm as the resident hair stylist and loved every minute of it.

I found I could really make people feel good about themselves when they saw their new hair styles. It made me feel so good to see how happy it made others, that I decided to enroll in cosmetology school after my college courses.

From the first day, I knew I had found my niche. The theory classes really got me hooked because I absolutely love chemistry. This got me more involved in the color aspect of the craft. Watching the complete metamorphosis of a client coming for a drastic change or just a touch-up really made me get into the challenge.

After earning my license, I met Bashar Kallabat of Bashar in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and his business partner Kennice Hoffman. They took me under their wings and trained me in the ways of the beauty business. Bashar told me to never stop learning, and with that you will have a true sense of responsibility and honest integrity toward your clients and business associates.

I still feel responsible to all I encounter when I work, teach or provide beauty services. Continuing education is the key: I seek out classes in the beauty industry and in many other fields every quarter to better my knowledge and pass it along to others.
I have been fortunate to work in the beauty industry for nearly 29 years and I learn so much out in the field from all the accounts, stylists and customers  I am privileged to work as the national training director for Phyto.

Having the ability to improve someone’s life by enhancing his or her appearance is what keeps me going. We all know what counts is on the “inside,” yet with a little help from the beauty biz on the “outside” I can help build a client’s confidence and possibly change his or her life.
