Organic Decadence: Bokaos Aveda

Stylist Hasblady Guzman was known for specializing in “green” hair care and for environmental activistism—so when she opened the doors to her flagship salon, Bokaos Aveda, at The Americana at Brand, it’s no surprise that she kept in tune with that same sentiment.

“I want my clients and my stylists to live an eco-friendly life,” Guzman says. “The salon had to be ‘green’—how else could I set an example?”

The newly opened, 2,000 square-foot space, appropriately dubbed “The Grove on steroids,” referring to its earlier Los Angeles incarnation, features recycled wood-framed mirrors and eco-friendly vinyl and straw mats. In addition, the chocolate brown and white paint that coats the walls is low volatile organic compounds. “I love white because it looks clean,” Guzman says. “I used chocolate brown because it’s earthy and complements all of our brown wood furniture.”
