Their Buns Never Looked Better!

by: Kristan Serafino, Celebrity Hair Stylist

No, I don’t mean Jennifer and Cameron flashing their bodacious derrière to the audience. I mean the marvelous variations of the standard hairstyle; the Bun.

In fact, variations of three of the most time-honored hair styles set the trend for the 84th Academy Awards ceremony; the Bun, the Bob and the Buxom Textured Hair.

The Bun

Rooney Mara wore hard cut bangs with a high structured bun. Her radiant red lip against the alabaster skin tone was a modern take of Audrey Hepburn when she won the Best Actress Oscar in 1941 for “Roman Holiday.”

Octavia Spencer was a winner last night from the moment she emerged from her limousine.  As elegantly brilliant as she looked on the red carpet, she was elegantly genuine accepting her Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Octavia’s side swept fringe, pulled tight into a low classic bun, served to slenderize her fuller facial structure, which drew attention to her stunning bedroom eyes.

Tina Fay’s Sculpted Voluminous Bun channeled Julia Robert’s memorable red carpet moment when she won the Best Actress award in 2000. Adding height at the crown and smoothing the sides closer to the head gave onlookers the chance to swoon at the soft features of her beautiful make-up.

The Bobs

Cameron Diaz’s bleach blonde Bob with sweeping fringe accentuates her strong physique and spunky confidence.  Cameron’s Bob brought attention to her clean and classic eye make-up which fully enhances her baby blue eyes.

Glenn Close showed us that you can still wear a modern textured Bob at her age. The soft texture hair framing her face only helps to enhance her glowing skin

Rose Bryne wore the definitive sleek Bob with blunt fringe. Few hair styles better frame the face of an assertive woman. While this style of Bob is a versatile look it always seems to add a hint of cool to a woman.

The Buxom Textured Hair

Veronica Lake waves are always a good idea; it is loaded with “wow-factor.”  It is a playfully mischievous hair style that looks great slightly messy or meticulously styled, especially on a head of gorgeous blonde hair like Stacy Keibler. Wearing one side tucked behind the ear brings a novel twist to an old Hollywood style.

While a half-down style runs the risk of looking dangerously close to a mullet, Jessica Chastain got the proportions just right. The ringlets of hair framing her face softened without minimizing the sleek form of her neck and shoulders that is pronounced by this hair style.

Is there anyone in the world with a pulse not drooling over Angelina Jolie’s new auburn colored hair?  Angelina’s choice to add volume at the crown of her head resulted in the loose textured waves to cascade fully over and around her shoulders. It gives a new meaning to the word; Vavoom!

And can we talk about the men?

The Babes

We were drooling over the classic debonair looks of our leading men. I say, “Hip-Hip-Hooray” to old Hollywood coming back in a new way. Bravo George Clooney, Jonah, Jean and Christopher!
