The red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC was the epicenter of glamour recently as A-list celebrities and designers turned out for the 2013 Met Ball Costume Gala to see “PUNK: Chaos to Couture,” the exhibit celebrating the influence of the raucous punk scene on high fashion.

Leaving it to others to show up in modern renderings of torn T-shirts and safety pins, Academy Award-winning actress Marion Cotillard made her grand entrance in a stunning strapless Dior couture gown with her hair styled by celebrity stylist Robert Vetica.

Try it: Start with towel-dried hair. Apply René Furterer Volumea Volumizing Foam-no rinse. Give your client’s hair a blow out, make a low side part, and then pull the left side of the hair tight, straight back and pin it into place. Using a small ½-inch curling iron, curl the outer perimeter of the right side of the hair into soft waves. Next, pin-curl the very top of the head to create a wave that falls off to the front and side of the face. Apply finishing spray to the look. Brush the curls out and pin the hair under to form the asymmetrical shape.

Rockin’ the Side Part

Subtle to dramatic side-parted wavy down ‘dos ruled the red carpet at the Met Ball Costume Gala. Celebrities seen with this trendy style ranged from Kirsten Dunst, styled by celebrity hair stylist Diego Da Silva, to Sienna Miller, Emilia Clarke, Jamie King, Cara Delevingne and Brooklyn Decker. Some celebs spiced up the look with some braids, while others went beachy or classic.

Get the look: “After washing the hair, saturate from roots to ends with Sebastian Professional Volupt Spray. Blow dry the hair using a round brush for maximum root lift,” says Da Silva. Create your side part (decide how dramatic you want it to be). “Depending on the curl, use anywhere from a medium to large-sized curling iron to curl the hair softly from mid shaft to ends creating waves throughout rather than curls. Once the hair is cooled, spritz with Sebastian Professional Halo Mist for shine and finish with Sebastian Professional Shaper.” Optional: Add an accessory for an added effect.
