It can be an intimidating experience for a new cosmetology grad to have a bride as a client. Chances are, she's going to want everything perfect for her special day-especially her hair. So how do you go about the process of serving a bride?

Make sure you start off with a phone interview. This will serve as a mini consultation where you can talk about her hair's characteristics, its needs and her daily routine. Make sure she brings in her veil or hair pieces so you can create the most flattering look for her. Also, discuss her budget and wedding day goals.

The next step is the meeting. This is where you are going to be able to touch and see her hair in person. At this point you will know what you have to work with, and you will really be able to flesh out her wedding look. Talk about the dress, the location, the date...etc. Look at any photos she might have brought in with her. According to Stacey Weinstein, owner of Once Upon a Bride in New York City, "Give the bride three looks-one that addresses the vision agreed upon by you and the bride and two additional options."

Schedule trial hair styles. If the bride chooses, have her schedule individual sessions to try out each of the hair styles before her big day. Take photos! Offer her products as well. If she chooses, devise an at-home hair routine she can do to reach optimal healthy hair.

For the big day! If you are also working on the hair styles of a bridal party, Weinstein advises to provide the bride with a master schedule to eliminate chaos.
