Reaching a whopping 3.5K "Likes" on Modern's Facebook recently, MODERN Editors scouted down the hair color formula and steps to this beautiful rich red hair color with golden caramel highlights. Hair Colorist Alexa Brie Shaw from Charlotte, North Carolina, who created this hair color answered!
This is THE hair color to try for Autumn 2014! "The finished look shows a lot of contrast with little color, sometimes less is more!" says Shaw.
THE STEPS:
Starting Level: 4 dark brown with blonde and carmel highlights.
STEP 1: "To start, you need to make sure the blonde highlights are getting the proper amount of coverage or you might just find yourself with pink hair after a couple washes. With this hair color, fill in the blonde strands with a 6R from Redken Shades EQ."
STEP 2: "The red color was established with Pravana ChromaSilk 5RR with an added kick of Pravana ChromaSilk Additive Red. Remember, color cannot lift color. In this case I added an extra kick of red to that a richer, brighter appearance."
STEP 3: "After the application of the rad at the base, I added caramel highlights with a low level 5 Volume Lightener. The whole head was only about 10 foils."
STEP 4: "When rinsing out the color, I let my caramels get saturated with the red hair color to add a little bit of warmth to the end result."
