HOW-TO: Warm Copper Redhead Formula and Braided Style for Winter

Wella Top Artist Nicole Leal of Salon Nine Zero One in Los Angeles was inspired by the warm tones and braid in the Bronze Opulence Updo from the Olympics collection to give her client Suzanne a dazzling warm copper that’s perfect for winter.

Natural level 6. Virgin hair.

Wavy with very fine texture.


Formula A – mid-lengths & ends

120g ILLUMINA Color 7/43 + 120g 30vol Koleston Perfect Crème Developer.

Formula B - roots

60g ILLUMINA Color 7/43 + 60g 20vol Koleston Perfect Crème Developer

click image to zoomSTEP 1: Part from ear to ear across the crown. Working from the crown down to the nape using 1.5” slices, apply formula A to mid-lengths and ends. Work from the crown forward, applying the color in same manner using 1” slices, bringing the hair back away from the face. Apply formula B to the root area. Process for 40 minutes. click image to zoomSTEP 2: Rinse out with Color Post Treatment to lock in color.
click image to zoomSTEP 3: For extra conditioning perform the Oil Reflections Reflective Service. Prepare: Hair with Brilliance Shampoo. Protect: Apply Wella Professionals Oil Reflections to hair from mid lengths to ends. Apply Brilliance Treatment mask to hair. Pamper: Use the Care3 massage technique and wrap head in warm, wet towel. Let client sit for 10 minutes under a heat source. Rinse with warm water and then towel dry. click image to zoomSTEP 4: Spray hair with Brilliance Leave In Balm and use wet brush to brush out hair. One length haircut. Section back of head and establish length.

Finish hair ends with thinning shears to add movement. click image to zoomSTEP 6: Recondition and prime hair with Brilliance Leave In Mousse and comb through ends. Apply Velvet Amplifier to hair to set the foundation for great style. Create volume and movement with Extra Volume Mousse, working in hands and caressing through mid-lengths and ends
click image to zoomSTEP 7: Use Oil Reflections on mid-lengthsand ends to prep hair for blow drying. Dry hair with round brushes in three inch panels. Tightly twist into a curland pin away to create soft movement. Give it medium hold with Stay Essential Hair Spray. click image to zoomSTEP 8: Add a fun twist to the look by using a braid. Section head from front ear to ear across the front of the of crown. Braid the hair taking a 3” panel above one ear and securing the end of the braid with a rubber band. Use Stay Essential Hair Spray to give braid medium hold. Apply Pearl Styler to the braid to create some slightly messy texture and a pearlescent shine. Pull braid across top of the head and secure by the other ear using rubber bands. Release back section to hide where the braid is secured.
