How to Repair Hair's Integrity After Coloring Hair Multiple TimesDo you have a teen/young adult teen client who likes to experiment with various hair colors within short periods of time? What should colorists recommend to those clients to help maintain/repair their hair's integrity? Find out the answer here from Schwarzkopf Professional's Color Ambassador Rick Wellman.

"For any fun-loving color chameleon, I recommend using easy application extension wefts when possible, such as invisi-tabs... they easily accept any shade, especially when you desire fun, vivid colors,” says Rick Wellman, Schwarzkopf Professional Color Ambassador. “I can relate as I was one of those kids in the ‘80s…we only had food coloring and Manic Panic and were without the high-tech hair repair treatments available today.

“Recommend that your clients use a sulfate-free shampoo, which protects hair against color fading and adds shine. Follow with BC Repair Rescue Conditioner to seal the hair’s surface and ensure its integrity. I also suggest exploring color flip flopping with the stronger underneath hair and avoiding the top layer, as it can already be sensitive and exposed to the elements. ‘Peek-a-boo’ color can be more fun, sophisticated and less overwhelming.

"You can also gently highlight strands with Schwarzkopf Essensity Lightening Cream and Powder prior to depositing with IGORA Viviance for extra light reflection. The combo is perfect for experimental clients, as it allows for vivid tones to latch on, slowly move and lighten easily with minimal wear and tear on the hair and zero ammonia. I also love OSiS Dust It because it helps preserve pigment for this type of client. Always keep in mind that hair color is not a tube of lipstick that wipes off at night.

"Have fun with your clients while also guiding them to make wise hair color decisions and make an agreement to treat your work and their hue(s) with extra T.L.C. These colorful individuals can also be the most eye catching topic of conversation at parties, so make sure they have lots of your business cards!”
