Mastering Swivel Shears

By Lauren Salapatek | 02/20/2013 11:37:00 AM

Sam Villa, founding partner of the Sam Villa brand and Education Artistic Director for Redken 5th Avenue, shows you in this video the ergonomically correct way to cut in any position with wrists straight, hands open and elbows down.

"Converting to a swivel shear, there is a transition period, doing the 5 Positions Exercise ensures that the transition is swift and graceful,” explains Villa. "With traditional shears, there is a lot of twisting and turning to line shears up properly to obtain the right angle to see and cut hair. This is especially when cutting the bottom hairline, layers on top, fringe and around the ear." For more information on the Sam Villa brand, visit www.samvilla.com.
