It’s a crucial and simple step that ever colorist should do before applying hair color to their client’s hair: Clarification.

Tony Difria, National Education Director of All-Nutrient Hair Color spent part of his class at Premiere Orlando 2013 talking about the importance of clarifying your client’s hair before any hair color treatment.

“If you put color on dirty hair, are you going to get the full lift of the hair? No. It’s simple, the more pigment you can get into your client’s hair, the better the color is going to last.”

If the reason why you are not clarifying your client’s hair is because you think it “takes too long,” think again says Difria. “You AND your clients are going to see the difference in their hair color after a proper clarification process. Lots of people say this step takes too much time, but that shouldn’t be a factor. If you are trying to be the best colorist you can be, it’s just part of the process you need to do. It will set you apart from colorists that don’t do that process before, and you client’s will come back to you for it.”
