Aveda showcased top talent from its global network at the Aveda Master Jam show on April 10-11 in east London's Old Billingsgate venue on the bank of the River Thames.

Master Jam is a two-day event designed to foster technical learning and creative inspiration. The event brought together Aveda's masters in hairdressing and makeup artistry for a "jam session" – to share ideas and techniques with an avid audience of more than 1,200 beauty professionals from 20 different countries. Aveda guest artists presented the latest styles, techniques and the ideas that inspired them, unveiling a global vision of trends in hairdressing and beauty.

The show's theme was Fashion Forward, brought to life in five vignettes that embodied Aveda's environmental mission. The program integrated presentations from Aveda veterans and young talent alike, culminating in an awesome finale by Antoinette Beenders, Aveda's Global Creative Director.

SHOW 1: AVEDA EUROPEAN SHOW TEAM

Jo McKay:European Technical Color Educator, Aveda Academy London

Bea Watson: Technical Hair Educator, Aveda Scotland & Ireland

Bastian Casaretto: Artistic Director, Aveda Germany, Austria & Switzerland

The Vibe: Models sported hair dressed like fabric; inspired by the latest collection by Dutch designers Viktor & Rolf, and the ancient Greek empire where woven fabric originated, Mesopotamia.

The Color: Orange hues dominated– from bright blasts of copper to subtle flashes of amber. Echoing the 3D graphics of Viktor & Rolf's fashion fabrics, geometric patterns decorated the styles: ink-black graphic shapes on amber, red or white-blonde hair evoked a tattooed effect.

Cut & Style: Coifs were big and frothy with neck-hugging ruffles, crimped into honeycomb crests or backcombed into gravity-defying shapes. With a nod to the sculptural silhouettes of the Eighties, tight graduation into soft lines helped shaped asymmetrical and angular short crops.

SHOW 2: AVEDA MEN

The Vibe: Classic guy-style favorites with tight sides and longer length on top allow for plenty of versatility.

The Color: Next to natural with an occasional high or lowlight for texture changes.

Cut & Style: Traditionally cut close sides give way to longer lengths on top. Pomade made the hair pliable and easily moldable.

SHOW 3: AVEDA CANADIAN ARTISTIC TEAM

Ray Civello: Executive Creative Director & President/CEO, Aveda Canada

Tristin Morrison: Senior Creative Director, Aveda Canada

Morgan Roy: Creative Director, Aveda Canada

The Vibe: Sophisticated, cool and understated chic. From polished geometric cuts to full heads of healthy-looking stylized curls.

The Color: Block colors featuring ice white and honey-gold blondes, soft raspberry at the crown that melts mid-length into amber-tinged blonde and deep, rich brunettes; all tinted using Aveda Full Spectrum Hair Color.

Cut & Style: Fringe detail – long, short and anywhere in between – dominated layered, precise geometric cuts. Exaggerated meshed fringes fell like veils over the face. Reminiscent of the Eighties and NYC's Studio 54, curled styles were dressed flat at the crown and gave way to full, bouncy, curly tresses.

SHOW 4: AVEDA NORTH AMERICAN ARTISTIC TEAM

Allen Ruiz: North American Style Director, Aveda

Ricardo Dinis: North American Artistic Director, Aveda

Ian Michael Black: North American Color Director, Aveda

Janelle Geason: Global Educator, Aveda Makeup

The Vibe:Diversity was the name of the game. Ricardo Dinis did distinctive precision cuts that were fashionably fresh with short, angular fronts and longer, disconnected backs. Assisted by the UK's Robert Eaton, Allen Ruiz demoed editorial techniques for long hair.

The Color:Ian Michael Black created clean white and honey-toned blondes, and previewed Aveda's new Pure Tones set to launch in 2012 with a peacock array of shades.

Makeup:Janell Geason painted a palette of rich violet, deep azure, gemstone green and golden highlights, all blended for eye-catching and bold glamour.

AVEDA GLOBAL CREATIVE DIRECTOR, ANTOINETTE BEENDERS

The Vibe:Antoinette drew her inspiration from the elements of air, fire and water. She fused wearable style with the fantastic and fantastical.

The Color:Multiplicity reigned with block blondes, redheads and rich dark blacks and lilac-grey pastel.

Cut & Style: The element of air was reflected in an Eighties-era Sinead O'Connor crop with a Joan of Arc fringe. A super-fine veil of hair covered the eyes to create an almost-antiqued look. Fire power came in the form of a vibrant redhead, in crimped and rippling texture. Gel-saturated hair called to mind shiny, licorice-black water.

The European Fashionista Awards

A creative photographic competition recognizing excellence in artistic ingenuity, originality and technical execution. Winners were announced by Amanda LeRoux, Brand General Manager, Aveda Europe, and Pauline Cairns, Education Director, Aveda Europe.
