With the bob going top-round and end-layered, grayday, winter-friendly shades that add inner light accent movement best. "Rich reds, mochas and cooler violet browns are ideal base shades," says Pon Saradeth, owner of Pon International in Anaheim Hills, California, "while golden or copper tones add extra warmth, placed over the top." His approach:

Formulas:

  1. Base: 5ml Goldwell Colorance Plus 6NN, 5ml 7G, 20ml 5BG with 60ml Intensive Developer Lotion.
  2. Highlights: One scoop of Goldwell Oxycur Platin Ultra Lightener with 20ml 20-volume developer.
  3. Toner: Colorance 10ml 8G, 10ml 9GB, 5ml G Mix (gold concentrate) and 5ml Clear with 60mg Demi Developer Lotion.
Steps to Success:
  1. Apply the base color with a bottle, from base to ends. Process at room temperature for 25 minutes; shampoo, rinse and dry about 80 percent.
  2. Add woven highlights, using horizontal placement in the top and crown, and a medium weave with vertical placement at the sides. Leave out the back. Brush-on lightener base to ends, process 35 minutes or until golden stage is reached, then rinse and towel dry.
  3. Apply the toner from roots to ends, process for 20 minutes at room temperature.
