When clients with mid-length, textured cuts have a need for speed, try this technique, from Emily Goodwin of James Joseph Studio in Boston.
Section out the bang, then create a center part. Start a half inch behind the hairline and highlight a half-inch thick section that moves across the bang. Then highlight a pair of 3/4-inch sections, running an inch away from the part on either side, parallel to it. Taper them off at the crown or add a final section across the back to create a rectangle. Color choices take the look from subtle to avant garde: Here, strawberry-blonde panels boost the rich, red base, while side-part styling creates a color blast.
