Golden Color at the Golden Globes

So what did your fellow stylists like Patrick McIvor and Melissa Goepfert think of the hair at the Golden Globes? From blondes to brunettes these two beauty professionals dish out their observations and advice:

“Hair color at the Golden Globes was about making more from less…less highlights, less contrast and less upkeep yielding color. Follow Sandra, Scarlett, Angelina and even color chameleon Emma Stone—this season pick the right color and make sure it’s shiny and healthy. Skip the highlights—instead, play with the tone.” —Patrick McIvor, Matrix Artistic Director

McIvor’s favorite go to color is Matrix Color Sync, which has Ceramides to repair hair, is ammonia-free, and with a 20 minute processing time it’s ideal for fashion forward busy clients that want to make a color statement.

“Almost all brunettes were multidimensional with darker brown on top and lighter shades throughout the ends and blondes were dimensional cooler shades with honey tones throughout. Even Emma Stone, who is a more solid blonde, was a cooler beige…not the solid ‘bunny’ blondes of the past. It’s more natural looking.” —Melissa Goepfert, stylist at Patrick McIvor Color Studio

Goepfert’s Top Picks:
Brunettes: Anne Hathaway, Leighton Meester, Leah Michelle
Blondes: Michelle Williams, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood
Reds: Julianne Moore, Christina Hendricks

How to get Emma Stone’s Golden Globe color:
“Going from red to very blonde like Emma Stone is something that should to be done gradually. Some may use a color remover before using lighter, but I would start with a bleach wash of lighter mixed with water, then heavily highlight the hair with Matrix V-light and 30 Volume (2 parts developer and 1 part V-light). Shampoo and glaze with Matrix Color Sync 9v Activator and Sheer Pastel Violet (equal parts). Placing foils creates more heat, so it lifts more evenly, while keeping the integrity of the hair versus doing an all over double process. The color can be lightened more throughout coming weeks, and eventually even look like a gorgeous all over blonde,” explains Goepfert.
