Keep It Short and Sweet

This short, sassy 'do from Aveda will thrill your curl clients. Executed by the Aveda Artistic team, this is a cut worth emulating!





 


































STEPS

Step 1: Part hair in a horseshoe shape along the parietal ridge.


Step 2: Follow along the back and through to other side.


Step 3: Create a central part in the back. Then add two small diagonal subsections at  the nape.


Step 4: Hold fingers parallel to parting. Using just your fingers, establish guideline against the nape.


Step 5: Repeat guideline on right subsection.


Step 6: Photo shows established guideline. Model has extremely curly hair. Note potential for "shrinking" when dry.


Step 7: Continue working upward with parallel diagonal subsections, overdirecting back while increasing elevation. (The stronger the curl, the less elevation).


Step 8: Continue taking diagonal sections, overdirecting throughout entire left panel.


Step 9: When complete, take diagonal sections starting through the front. Work from short to long.


Step 10: Continue diagonal sections backward, removing your corner. Allow the hair to dry naturally as you go.


Step 11: Finished side showing angle of cut. Repeat steps (8-11) on opposite side of head.


Step 12: Finished perimeter line. Re-wet hair as needed.


Step 13: Take a horizontal subsection and point- cut near the tips of the hair. The next subsection will be point-cut shorter, alternating ‘channels' between subsections.


Step 14: Shows shorter channel being cut. Continue alternating longer and shorter subsections throughout top, leaving out a fringe.


Step 15: Shows first fringe section. Use a slicing technique to create the desired length.


Step 16: Add additional sections to fringe working symmetrically from side-to-side. Continue to slice until desired effect is reached.


Step 17: Final look after color has been applied.
