Melissa Leo's Romantic Updo

At the 68th Annual Golden Globes Awards, actress Melissa Leo walked down the red carpet every inch a winner, starting at the top with her casually glamorous updo, and alluring sequined gown. She also walked away a winner, landing a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress Performance in a Motion Picture for her star turn in “The Fighter.”

“To create Melissa’s textured updo, I wanted a soft, romantic elegance to contrast with the strong architectural lines of her gown,” says Celebrity stylist Creighton Bowman of Exclusive Artists Management. Creighton takes us behind the scenes on how he styled her award-winning look.

Here are Creighton's steps:
1. For more body and fullness, start with towel-dried hair, and then apply René Furterer Modeling Paste at the crown. Next, work some René Furterer Tonucia No Rinse Densifying Mousse from roots to ends through the rest of the hair.

2. Then set your blow-dryer on low to give hair a soft blow-out. This helps to maintain the natural texture.

3. Curl hair with a one-inch-wide curling iron to enhance the waves. Spray sections with René Furterer Vegetal Finishing Spray before curling—this helps to just set the curls.

4. To create a more fashion-forward, roughened-up texture, spray the hair with René Furterer Naturia Dry Shampoo, and lightly back-comb the hair at the roots. Then pin the hair into a classic French Twist. Leave a few loose pieces around the face to soften the look.

5. Finish with Hairspray!
