As part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) and the National Cosmetology Association (NCA) are requesting beauty professionals to sign the CUT IT OUT 2010 pledge at www.CUTITOUT.org.

CUT IT OUT is a program of the Salons Against Domestic Abuse Fund dedicated to mobilizing salon professionals and others to fight the epidemic of domestic abuse in communities across the United States. CUT IT OUT builds awareness of domestic abuse and trains salon professionals to recognize warning signs and safely refer clients to local resources.

After you sign up for the pledge, your salon will receive the CUT IT OUT materials, and you can display them at front desks, individual stations and in all restrooms of your salon/spa. By displaying these materials it can possibly help someone in need.

Originally a statewide program in Alabama, CUT IT OUT trained over 500 Alabama salon professionals in 2002. During this time, NCA and Clairol Professional had separately identified domestic abuse as an area in which both could make a difference. The three organizations, with the support of Southern Living at HOME, formed a partnership to take CUT IT OUT national in March 2003.

CUT IT OUT 2010 is challenging the professional beauty industry to take a stand against domestic violence, and is asking that 2,010 salons and/or individual beauty professionals make a pledge to use the power of beauty to end domestic abuse in America today. To sign the pledge and receive materials to display in your salon, please visit www.CUTITOUT.org.
