When I met with CEO and founder of Shark Fin Professional Shears, Randy Ferman, one of the first things I asked him, was: "Why should stylists choose Shark Fin Shears?" To prove his brand, he flipped through his catalogue and stopped on the last page-where there was a list of comments from real stylists about their Shark Fin experiences. After scanning the comments, he pointed to one in particular for me to read:

"Shark Fin shears have saved my hand. I've been cutting hair for thirty years and in the past eight I've experienced chronic pain in my cutting hand. Within the first 2 to 3 weeks using the Shark Fin shears, my pain melted away. Now I feel I can work indefinitely. It's been nearly 2 years since I purchased my first 5.5" pair and they still don't need a major sharpening. Couldn't be happier. I'm a very satisfied customer."
--Dennis Souza

After reading the passage, I understood. Randy continued to explain, "It's important for every stylist to know about the benefits of Shark Fin and what our shears can do for them. We are truly all about serving our customers," says Ferman. "We are a credible shear company dedicated to providing a quality product and satisfaction to stylists everywhere." Ferman says that no other shear company shares their technology with their patented handle and patented SHEAR FIT finger fitting system. "My philosophy is, if you don't take care of your customer, someone else will. That's why Shark Fin is all about being customer-oriented," says Ferman.

A Healthy Shear = A Healthy You

As a professional stylist, you may find that many scissors are "one size" fits all fingers. However, with Shark Fin Shears they offer different sizes that are custom fitted to your own ring finger and thumb diameter. When I met with Ferman, he custom fitted a pair of Shark Fin shears to my fingers, and I felt more in control, and I definitely didn't have to worry about them slipping out of my hand.

With a properly fitted shear, you do not to have to use thumb pressure to cut with the shear. A custom fit allows you to relax your grip and your blades will last longer because they are not being forced together.

Shark Fin Shears are all about convenience for the stylist. Their patented handle(s) help to properly align nerves and tendons in the hand, which can greatly reduce risk of: tendonitis, arm pain, nerve damage, neck and shoulder pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and back pain. Their patented scissor fitting system allows for a custom fit. If you add in a swivel thumb it will provide you with an ergonomically correct shear. The swivel design helps with these problems-they allow you keep your shoulders and elbows down and your wrist straight.

Shear Maintenance

According to Ferman, you must check and adjust blade tension daily. It will make sure that your shears are functioning correctly and it will insure you that you are getting the best results.

If tension is too loose…it will allow your shears to fold the hair
If tension is too tight…it will cause the shears to bind

Stylists should also invest in daily cleaning and lubrication of their shear's blades. Use a soft cloth towel saturated with scissor oil and thoroughly wipe the inside of the blades of the shear after every customer. This will extend the life of your blades because you will not have metal on metal friction and it will reduce buildup of chemicals. Don't forget to disinfect too!

Ferman stressed that stylists should only sharpen their shears only when needed, not on a set schedule (and not to sharpen their shears more than they need to). The better you take care of your shears the longer the edges will last between sharpening.

Ferman's Final Shear Advice:
When purchasing a new shear, here's some aspects you should look for:

A full convex edge…for slide cutting
Forged blades, not cast (lower quality shears are usually cast)
A shear custom-fitted to your exact ring finger and thumb diameter
A Lifetime warranty
Certified sharpeners in your area to service your shears
Japanese Hitachi Steel (get a 440-A steel or higher – this provides harder steel with longer lasting edges).

Shark Fin has been so popular with stylists that stylists even have tattoos of Shark Fin!!!
