With Memorial Day right around the corner, the summer hair coloring season is officially here! Whether your clients want to be beachy blonde or peachy red, it’s up to you to stay on top of this season’s trends.

Tracey Cunningham, Hollywood colorist and Redken creative consultant for color and David Stanko, haircolor consultant for Redken and NYC-based colorist identified the following color trends for summer 2009:

#1: Light it Up
“Blondes always want to play with their hair color,” says Cunningham. “Think Cameron Diaz; I add highlights for dimension and a beachy, lived-in, radiant summer look!”

#2: Cool it Down
“For my clients that are ready for change this summer, I add dramatic highlights to a cool base, and then use Shades EQ for the perfect tone,” says Cunningham. “Think Molly Sims for this look. Shine is also a sought-after feature this summer; it is important to have shine to make your color look healthier and richer,” she adds.

#3 Red-Nette Glamour
“If a consumer is not looking for blonde, not to worry,” says Cunningham. “This summer brunettes and redheads will look for a glamorous blended shade of brunette and red to create a stand-out shade. Think Emma Stone as the inspiration for this look.”
