Incredible changes don't have to involve complex chemistry. Here, a Level 5 with grown-out highlights looks incredible when a cool mahogany brown reacts with natural undertones to create a red-violet brunette. Olive skin tones are instantly enhanced. Next, a romantic, textured updo is created with an eye on making the hair look thicker. The style comes from a mean product cocktail, flat wrapping and iron curling, then pinning one-inch sections.

No need to go too faux when you can use natural undertones and fine, but dense, texture as the basis for an out-of-this-world transformation.

Formulas:

  1. Paul Mitchell The Color 1-oz 5N + 1-oz 5CM with 2-oz 20-Volume Clear Developer. (Since no filler is used, previous highlights create dimension.)
  2. Volume-Boosting Cocktail: Paul Mitchell Modern Elixirs Refining Conditioner, Extra Body Root Lifter, Sculpting Foam, Super Skinny Serum.
  3. Finishers:  Paul Mitchell Super Clean Hair Spray, Modern Elixirs Illuminating Shine Spray, Hold Me Tight Finishing Spray.

Steps to Success:

  1. Apply the color formula from roots to ends.
  2. Process for 35 minutes, then shampoo and condition.
  3. Apply the product cocktail to hair and flat wrap, as you dry to remove 80-percent of the moisture. Wrap each section with a medium-sized round brush for smooth volume.
  4. Take one-inch sections, tease at the root, spray with hairspray, curl with a 1¼ inch barrel iron and pin in place. Let cool for 10 minutes.
  5. Remove pins and shake head. Then place bobby pins along with shape of curls and mist-on finishers.
