Maggie Fink (standing) and Green With Envy business partner Jessica Westlake say green is the new blonde.
Maggie Fink, co-owner of Green With Envy Organic Hair Studio in Scottsdale, Arizona, didn’t let a little economic stumble stop her from opening this January. Her green environment, including soy-based sealer over concrete floors, a reclaimed-furniture front desk and recycled denim insulation (which muffles sound better than fiberglass, she says), brought her tons of local and internet press. Still, mainstays matter and her biggest business booster was a $75 cut-and-color special.
“We’ve been open just four weeks and a local newspaper ad for the special alone brings us eight new clients a day,” says Fink. “They’re particularly attracted to the fact we use EcoColors, a 1.5-percent, low ammonia color that is EU-approved as nontoxic. Already, most of the new clients have rebooked because they’re going to get the services anyway, and love the idea their investment is going toward supporting a green business.”
