The Education

America's Beauty Show is coming to its new venue, McCormick Place in downtown Chicago, March 1-3, bringing all sectors of the professional salon industry together for three days of education, exhibits, networking, trend spotting and stage events.

A veritable who's who of industry leaders will be in attendance and several of them shared with MODERN SALON what they will look for and look forward to at America's Beauty Show.

What To See at ABSChicago salon owner Luz Segovia is president of Cosmetologists Chicago, the owners and producers of the show.

"I'm lucky to be leading our organization during such an incredible turning point for CC and for America's Beauty Show," she says, adding that she is most excited about the move to McCormick Place, one of the country's premier convention centers, and the international representatives that the show will be hosting.

"I think the Future Vision ‘08 show at ABStyle, with our partners P&G Professional Care, will be a tremendous evening of fashion and hair style," says Segovia.

"We are incorporating America's Latino Beauty Congress into ABS and it will be an excellent opportunity to offer education for the Spanish speaking salon professionals who will be attending from across Latin America."

As a salon owner, Segovia looks forward to the show every year to experience the latest styling trends that she can take back to her clients.

"I like to see what's happening for the season and hear the show's educators discuss the inspiration behind their looks. The ability to actually have conversations with these stars is a big part of what separates America's Beauty Show from other events," she says.

Danny Lapointe is a Clairol Professional master colorist and educator. "I'm anticipating a lot of energy around the OMC HairWorld World Championships of Beauty," says Lapointe. "Having African-American Hair 2008 incorporated into the larger show will also be a huge draw."

As an educator, Lapointe says, "America's Beauty Show has traditionally had a very high energy level, which makes our educational presentations much more engaging for the crowd and for us. We thrive on a large, live audience and I think the crowds will really be buzzing over the new venue and ambience of downtown Chicago."

Lapointe adds that Clairol will be launching its new collection inspired by runway trends and featuring the color and cut synergies of Anita Gutierrez, Clairol Professional's lead color master, and Lapointe's styling team. New music and wardrobe will complete the presentation. Lapointe also adds that Clairol Professional has chosen America's Beauty Show for the launch of its partnership with the American Heart Association's "Go Red for Women" campaign against heart disease.

What To See at ABSDavid Raccuglia, founder and CEO of American Crew, is looking forward to the company's special event, American Crew Opening Night @ America's Beauty Show.

"This will be the first time we will be launching our newest trend release outside of our hometown of Denver. I'm especially looking forward to the global exposure ABS offers American Crew this year," says Raccuglia.

"The Chicago show is special for me," he adds. "This is where American Crew launched 14 years ago. We were an unknown little company and this show put us on the beauty industry map. We realized from the positive reaction of the audience that there was a need for, and belief in, the men's grooming industry."

Raccuglia says that this year American Crew will be using its exhibit space at the show to provide an "experience" with a grooming gallery featuring multimedia education.

"I'm happy about the move to downtown Chicago because everyone who comes here will be able to get a better feel for this great international city," Raccuglia says.

Karol Thousand of LaJames International Colleges will bring the school's cosmetology students to America's Beauty Show.

"LaJames is bringing 350 students. This show is one that our students look forward to for education. Several students have attended shows abroad, but they still say that everything is better at America's Beauty Show," says Thousand.

"The students love the Student Conference with education by Pivot Point's Yolly ten Koppel and Robert Cromeans of Paul Mitchell. More than anything, they are looking forward to the international component of this year's show-the new exhibitors and the competitions at OMC HairWorld," she says.

"Our esthetics students will be coming as well for America's Expo for Skin Care and Spa, which will be held during ABS. All our students have come to expect great networking opportunities at this show."
