ON INSTAGRAM: Illumina Formula for a Copper Glow

We spotted Philip Ring's warm copper finish on INSTAGRAM and he shared his technique and formula for his client.

"She came in with a golden brown color (previously a dark violet color from someone else). She had ashy roots but what inspired my color choice was how blue her eyes were," said Ring, who works out of The Hair Bar in Peoria, Arizona. "She has always had people put violet lowlights in her hair and she asked me to deepen her base color and highlight a bit. After I highlighted, I told her that she really should gravitate towards more coppers and reds because it complimented her skin tone and eyes."

THE FORMULA

"My technique for the copper color was to highlight with Blondor and 10 volume for dimension. Her base was a level 6 ash and her ends were about a 7 1/2 golden warm so instead of doing a base Color, I used WELLA ILLUMINA 7/43 and 20 volume (1:1) roots to ends for 10 minutes. That brightened her roots, toned her blonde and gave her warm ends a copper glow that matched her root."

THE FINISH

"To style her, I shampooed and conditioned with WELLA BRILLIANCE (for the best color protection) and cocktailed Wella FLOWING FORM and WELLA OIL REFLECTIONS for an extra lightweight moisture and shine."
