Rising Star Ariel Griglin has had an interest in conducting photo shoots ever since she was a student at Paul Mitchell The School—Chicago, when she remembers producing a shoot for a NAHA student submission. After graduating in 2011, she wanted to find a creative way to continue this interest, so she started a club with 20 other future professionals, called the Paul Mitchell the School Photo Session Club. Initiated in November 2011, the group of future professionals have teamed up with renowned beauty photographer Jean Sweet, and started meeting one to two times per month for an hour to discuss photo shoot concepts. When the club gets closer to their scheduled shoots, they meet once a week for an hour.

“In the meetings everyone is broken off into four committees (production, fashion, hair and make-up) and each committee is required to take control of that portion of the project, ” she says. “My favorite part is definitely seeing how excited everyone gets, as well as the creativity that’s brought out.” In February, the group got together to do a shoot on a general concept of “nature.”

Recently Griglin was invited to be on the team of hair stylists for an editorial shoot called "Enchanted Brides." For this editorial hair story, Photographer Jean Sweet (also the Art Director for the shoot) chose three fairy tale characters: the Evil Queen of Snow White, Red Riding Hood and Rapunzel to be styled in bridal. Griglin was given the chance to create the hair for the Evil Queen in which she executed the hair style with a wire form base underneath a blend of the model's own hair and extensions detailed with multi-textural braids, waves and curls.
