THE EVENT: jcp salon event and fall/winter trend collection show, Aug. 19, 2014 at the jcp headquarters in Plano, Texas.
THE DETAILS: jcp rounded up its education team of 55 for a week-long event including workshops and education focused on hands-on color, blowdry and finishing, and leadership. The week included the launch of jcp’s fall/winter trend collection, “American Woman,” which centers on signature blowouts found at jcp salon.
THE EDUCATION: Workshops in styling, color and business were attended by the jcp education team so that they could go out and spread their knowledge to the 12,000 jcp stylists nationwide.
On Mon., Aug. 18, MODERN SALON Publisher Steve Reiss gave a presentation on salon industry trends to keep jcp leaders on top of business insights. On Tues., Aug. 19, Matrix held a hands-on workshop with their Colorinsider line that culminated with makeovers for live models—cut, color, makeup and a photoshoot.
“What I enjoy about this is connecting with another hairdresser and watching them all get why this is so special,” said Donna Mann, director of education development for Matrix. “You see all the light bulbs go off, and you see them get so excited to be able to bring this to their clients.”
THE COLLECTION: “At jcp salon, we want to be commercial; we want to be accessible,” said Nick Stenson, senior artistic creative director of jcp salon. “We have over 900 salons across North America, so we want anybody to come in and get any kind of hair they want—from short, textured hair to long, beautiful beachy waves to something more sophisticated and sleek to something really big, kind of after the Southern woman. We really want to embrace the American woman and show something for everyone.”
Matrix, Wella and Redken all lent a hand in the production of the trend collection and workshops. The collection featured four looks styled by each of the four teams; the looks were interpretations of a modern woman from landmark U.S. cities New York, New Orleans, Chicago and Napa Valley.
“Tonight, we showcased four looks that our jcp design team created along with our vendor partners, Wella, Matrix and Redken, and collaborated on one stage tonight,” Stenson said. “It’s the first time we’ve ever had all those brands on one stage, and it was really powerful.”
THE LAST WORD: “The week was a huge success and we look forward to the great things our teams can do,” said Amiee Thomas, vice president of jcp salon. “The training and their hard work are just a few ways we can ensure we are ‘The Salon Destination of Choice.’”
