HOW-TO: Ombre with Colorgraphics Lacquer

Matrix’s new Colorgraphics Lacquer collection is new for salons in June and works for statement-making hair color effects.

The six semipermanent Lacquer shades come in vivid yellow, orange, red, purple, magenta and clear and can be applied full-strength or intermixed for ranges from pure tones to pastel shades.

Matrix’s Colographics Play Book educational guide features illustrations by fashion illustrator Izak Zenou for creative, bright imagery to accompany step-by-step color processes.

STEP 1: From recession to recession, create a horseshoe section to the top of the occipital. Isolate the top section. Divide the remaining hair into quadrants.

STEP 2: Starting in the back, take diagonal sections and lightly backcomb with the top 2 cm of the hair.

STEP 3: Choose two formulas for the application. Start with a bottom backcombed subsection and place on foil. Apply formula A to mid-lengths while diffusing up to the base and down to the ends. Apply formula B to the ends and diffuse up to mid-lengths. Place a foil on top of the sub-section without folding to isolate.

STEP 4: Repeat Step 3 in the remaining subsections.

Pro Tip: Choose two colors that will blend nicely together, such as magenta and purple.
