Jack Ray, owner of Samuel Cole Salon in Raleigh, N.C., took some time at the inaugural V76 by Vaughn Workshop to talk to MODERN editor Lauren Quick about how he would orchestrate a first-time color consultation.

Consultations are the foundation for good relationships with clients and your overall success. Color consultations can be a tricky thing—especially when a client with virgin hair has some concerns about the process.
