Texture Meets Pin CurlsSam Villa, founding partner of the Sam Villa brand and Redken education artistic director, commented on the out-sized volume and texture seen on the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week runways.

“The outrageous volume this season allows us to experiment with new and fun ways of creating big hair. The Reem Acra show featured poufed-out hair created by Didier Malige with hair pins and a flat iron. You can use a flat iron for a sleeker finish, or try a texturizing iron for added interest and texture that really inflates, “says Villa.

Villa explained how to replicate the “Textur” Pin Set seen on the runway using his Sam Villa Signature Series Textur iron.

Get the Look:

Spray a small section (size determined by the size of the pattern) with Redken iron silk 11 and comb through for protection and hold.

Open a large, flexible hair pin and hold firmly between the index finger and thumb and place pin on top of the section.

Wrap hair around in a figure eight pattern—over, under, through and around—to the ends and then give the pin one twist to close.

Compress each pin set with the Sam Villa Signature Series Textur iron. Let cool, untwist the pin, straighten the legs of the pin and, holding it from the top, slip the hair off the ends of the pin.

Rake fingers through to break up and expand the hair. Finish with Redken control addict 28. Visit www.samvilla.com.
