THE TALK: Five Questions About Going Blonde Redken Expert and Haircolor Consultant, David Stanko, answers five questions on how-to avoid fading and brassiness and replenishing moisture on color treated hair. Plus, he also shares the latest on Redken's new Blonde Idol line.

ON BRASSINESS AND COLOR DEPOSITING

1. What are the benefits to using color-depositing formulas?

"Women come to salons seeking solutions. One of the most common problems I see is 'tonal loss' of blonde hair. Translation: a golden tone that is too brassy or too dull. Blonde Idol's unique dual-chamber dispensing mechanism allows a woman to "dial-up" a combination of white conditioner mixed with the proper dose of a color-treated conditioner: either purple to cancel brassiness or gold to enhance warmth. This helps keep her color looking fresh and shiny thanks to the Kera-Bright System."

2. How do they help maintain stylists’ color work and protect clients’ color investment?

"I educate my fair-haired ladies at the shampoo bowl while I am applying conditioner. I show her the dial-up mechanism, provide commentary on use and show her how 'purple' the violet conditioner is, but not to be afraid. With education and use, the woman is more confident, listens to my direction and in four to six weeks returns for her standard color service with hair looking 'well-maintained' and not faded or raw."

ON MOISTURE

3. How important is a moisture rich regimen to restore hair and to get rid of dryness?

"One of the results of lightening virgin hair is dryness. Multi-tonal blondes tend to be drier; the hair can look duller as shine is less reflective. This hair type lacks strength and is prone to breakage and damage from heat styling tools. Sulfate-free shampoo is extra gentle and does not compromise or overly condition the hair. The ingredient mix is formulated with a pH balanced formula to gently cleanse and soften blonde hair with lightweight moisture."

ON REDKEN'S BLONDE IDOL

4. What is the most unique feature of Redken’s Blonde Idol line?

"The line consists of five products including the Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Custom-Tone conditioner that releases a custom calibrated blend of color-depositing and conditioning formulas to help maintain tonality. A star product in the line-up in the BBB Spray, which is amazing as a detangler, and lastly the Mask nourishing rinse-out treatment. I suppose the Mask, which absorbs quicker than a traditional cream, is my pick to uniqueness. It won't weigh the hair down and absorbs quickly to provide moisture."

5. What separates this retail line from other brands who carry blonde hair color targeted retail salon products?

"Redken's Blonde Idol is a complete line. From the Sulfate-Free Shampoo to the color depositing and multi-benefit conditioners to the nourishing Mask, the line addresses the special needs of blondes. The system also contains Redken's latest innovative care: violet leaf extract and lactic acid to help strengthen and boost shine so blonde hair looks bright, soft and beautiful."Shop Modern Salon - David Stanko
