HOW TO Get Modern's April Cover LookAlthough it just arrived in salons, the cover look on Modern's April issue is causing quite a stir. The good news is that in addition to shooting the step by steps for the pages of the magazine, we grabbed colorist Alexandra Matiz of the Muze Salon in NYC and stylist Nicole Obert of the Anthony Robert Salon in NJ to break down the look on video.

"I wanted to go a bit darker on the new growth," says Matiz who used several different shades on her model. For the new growth: Illumina four parts 7/43 to one part 7/31. Two separate formulas were used for the lengths: Magma   /39 /34 and /47 followed by /47. After processing, Matiz  glossed with a blend of equal parts: Illumina /43, 13 volume (4%) and post color service. "It's all for soft dimension," she says. "A golden, natural red that is still glamorous."

For shape, Obert cut an extreme long layer face frame. "It's important to cut your shape knowing the style beforehand," she says. "The hair is then set with 1 1/4 inch barrel iron in horizonal sections, alternating in and under allows the hair to style itself."

For both artists the goal of creating the perfect blend jessica Chastain and Rita Hayworth is achieved.
