Draped French Braid Pony Seen on Pinterest: The How-To

By Alison Shipley Alhamed | 02/10/2012 11:07:00 AM

If you happen to be one of MODERN SALON's nearly 90,000 Facebook fans, no doubt you've witnessed our addiction to Pinterest—where users create pinboards to collect and socially share images and articles that inspire them.

We love using the newly launched social media site to "repin" hair styles, nail designs, fashion, salon decor ideas, and all things beauty. Recently, we came across this braid on Pinterest—which was originally pinned from weheartit.com.

The braid that created all the buzz! Repinned from weheartit.com.    MODERNs Braids We Adore pinboard created on Pinterest. Follow us by searching for Modern Salon.

When we repinned it on Pinterest, and shared it on Facebook, our fans went WILD! This look was one of our top "talked about" posts ever. It reached 1,748 "likes," hundreds of shares and nearly 300 comments in about an HOUR. AN HOUR!

Marci from 1033 Main Salon and Spa in Mumford, New York, recreated the draped french braid ponytail seen on pinterest.com/modernsalon and facebook.com/modernsalon. Though we were able to see how the braid was constructed, we didn't feel confident enough to explain how to do it. So, we turned to you, the experts, with a challenge to recreate the look. Marci, from 1033 Main Salon and Spa in Mumford, New York, not only did so, but provided a step-by-step video on how to achieve it. Watch her video below to see her in action.

Think you've got what it takes to tackle the Pinterest braid? Do it! And share it on MODERN's Facebook wall, or upload it to MODERN SALON TV's YOUSHARE, who knows, you could be the next MODERN SALON FEATURED ARTIST and appear on an episode of MODERN SALON TV, the professional beauty industry's leading community of beauty-related videos. Watch the current episode here, and start thinking of how YOU can be our next featured talent!

This is really cool, even if it does look like a sea creature, or a brain sucking alien that has attached itself to her head!

I've been calling it a lobster tail braid because that's what it reminds me of! Thanks for the opportunity to share my work, Modern Salon, and for reposting my video!
