The team at Salon Shahin in Stamford, Connecticut (@salonshahinstamford) designed this look as a part of its 20th Anniversary photo shoot. The cut, by owner Shahin Farzam, was created for colorist LJ. When the cut was done, LJ knew she had to take her natural ash brown color to something more dynamic. Her own color formula, applied by color director Tina, gave it the pop she was looking for. Color and updo specialist Jackie then created the faux-hawk look on the day of the shoot.

Here the team offers the steps:

COLOR:

Step 1: Bleach hair with Oxycur Platin by Goldwell, using 30 volume developer.

Step 2: Shampoo and towel dry well.

Step 3: Apply to the roots: Colorance 20 mL 10bs, 20 mL 10p with 40 mL Colorance developer along with a 2 inch ribbon of Pravana Violet.

Step 4: Process for 10 minutes on roots

Step 5: Pull through to the ends for another 10 minutes.

Step 6: Rinse, condition and style.

STYLE:

Step 1: Section hair in the center of the head into a diamond shape starting at the front hairline to the nape.

Step 2: Take remaining hair on the unshaved side of the head into two French braids.

Step 3: Take the remaining hair in the middle diamond shaped section and begin backcombing starting at the nape of the neck, working towards the top. Take small horizontal sections and spray each with Moroccanoil Medium Hold Hairspray as you work.

Step 4: Choose small random sections in the faux-hawk and braid.

Step 5: Finish with the Moroccanoil Medium Hold Hairspray.
