Ward Stegerhoek has done tens of thousands of shoots in his 30 plus year career as an editorial hairstylist. At a recent shoot with MODERN, Ward offered to show some his favorite and most used products and tools. A recent purchase, small, clear containers (from the Container Store), have helped him organize his kit, helping to separate pins, bands and all the little small things that he says were difficult to keep divided. Also important:

-a Hot Tools 3/4 inch curling iron

-a Mason Pearson brush ("everyone uses one," he says)

-needle and thread...a giant needle and elastic thread (used at shoe repair outlets) that Ward sometimes uses in place of bobby pins

-pipe cleaners (not shown in the video, but Ward adds, "make sure they are NOT a color that will run, like red or fuscia. I use them all the time to get a super tight curl or to get frizz.")

-cordless clipper (Ward uses Wahl)

-Living Proof FLEX ("It is simply the most perfect product," says Ward.)

Watch this video and see what Ward keeps in his kit and learn why he hates to ever leave something behind.
