Camille Plourde, (@hairbycamillegp) a master stylist at Hair in Fairfield, Connecticut, had a chance to put Marsala, the colorist friendly "Color of the Year" (according to Pantone), to work.

Here she offers the HOW TO:

"Stephanie was a new client to me and said do whatever you want.. My dream client," says Plourde. "I decided to use the Pantone color of the year, Marsala, as the inspiration for her hair."

Step 1: Begin around the face taking diagonal partings about an inch or so thick. Softly brush on a root color to blend some various tones she had in previous.  The root color used: Matrix Color Sync 2oz 4rv 1oz 6rv with 10vol developer.

Step 2: Comb through to the midshaft to blend.

Step 3: Using Sunlights Balayage and 30 volume,  softly paint V-lile patterns over the root color. Using gloved hands, saturate to the ends. Apply the lightener heavier on the bottom for more of a pop. Follow this pattern throughout the hair.

Step 4: Process for 15 minutes and then rinse well (no shampoo). Towel dry.

Step 5: Apply glaze: Matrix Color Sync 1oz 6rv 1oz 6br 1oz clear 3oz of 10vol and extra  1/4 oz HDRR and  1/4 oz HDRV

Step 6: Process for 10 minutes.  Shampoo and style.
