Kayla Le, a senior stylist from Excellent Hair Salon & Spa Inc. (@excellenthairsalon) of Fremont, California, saw her client Alma for the first time. Together, artist and client decided to go for a silvery blonde with a light brown base and a haircut with layers.

Alma arrived with 3 inches of new growth of a level 5 medium brown. She had a few existing blonde highlights throughout the crown blending to an almost solid blonde mid section and finally to brown ends. Le started out with a layer haircut, then treated her hair with a bond builder.

Get the color: Silvery-Blonde Sombre

STEP 1: Divide hair into 4 quads. Starting in the back, apply babylights in back to back foils using Matrix Light Master lightener + 20 volume creme developer on the new growth, 40 volume + bond builder on zone 2 and 3 (make sure not to overlap the previous blonde hair). Lay foils flat (do not fold.)

STEP 2:  Once the back is finished, move to the front 2 quadrants. Using the same technique, apply Matrix Light Master lightener + 30 volume creme developer on the newgrowth, 40 volume + bond builder on zone 2 and 3.

STEP 3: Process at room temperature for 30 minutes.

STEP 4: Rinse well and treat with bond builder for 10 minutes. Rinse, towel dry well.

STEP 5: On damp hair, apply Redken Shades EQ 6n, 3oz + 3 oz processing solution on zone 1. Apply Matrix colorSync 10p 3oz + Kenra 10SM 1/2 oz + 3 1/2 oz 10 volume Matrix creme developer on zone 2 and 3.

STEP 6: Process for 20 minutes. Rinse well, shampoo with Matrix So Silver. Treat with a bond builder.
