Maggie Ly (@Hairstylust) of David's Hair and Nail Design in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, specializes in haircolor and haircuts working mostly with Asian hair.

"Asian hair is usually course and strong," she says. "It can be fine, but is always strong." Ly decided to experiment on herself, testing the Joico intense colors on Asian hair. "We are the professional and we do need our hair done when we have a chance. I wanted to try it on myself before I tried it on my guests. I know for this shade, if done on Asian hair, it will have to be applied to a level 9-10 pale yellow. If the highlights are well blended, then the color looks beautiful because it appears there are many different shades of gray: green, purple and light blue tone gray on different levels of lights."

Ly shares the details of this "Transformation Selfie":

For the Ashy blonde, highlighted several months ago:

Step 1:  In foils, alternate thin diagonal slices and weaves using Schwarzkopf Blondme Enlightener blended with 30 volume developer and Olaplex. Place along the top only.
Step 2: Balayage the ends on the sides.
Step 3:  Process for 45 minutes. Rinse  with warm water (no shampoo) for 10 minutes.
Step 4: Apply Kenra 7sm + 10vol to the one inch at the root and then 2 inches after each zigzag slice ("so that the roots don't end up a harsh line.")
Step 5:  Melt with Kenra 10sm+8sm+10vol formula for the mid section and ends.
Step 6: Process for 20 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Apply Olaplex #2 and comb through. Process for 10 minutes.

For the metal look on the faded hair: "My hair was still very light with different levels from 6-8-10 from how the color faded. It was still very blended.":

Step 1: Apply Joico Intensity Titanium, to the hair in 1/2 inch sections, root to ends.
Step 2: Process for 60 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and shampoo and condition.
