Carly Gillam (@hairbycarlygillam) of Strawberry Blonde Salon in Charleston, SC, went on a journey with her guest. "My client came in and was tired of maintaining her level 4 permanent red hair color (with her natural being a level 7/8,)" says Gillam. "Her goal was to get to the point where she didn't have to come in every 6 weeks to get color done. Over time we created this fun color that she won't have to touch up for almost 5 months! The process took three sessions with 6-8 weeks in between appointments."

Here she shares the HOW TO in her own words:

First session
1) Cut the hair first to prevent color waste color and to see where to place color.
2) Full head of balayage with L'Oreal Platinium Plus 40 volume blended with Olaplex.
3) Paint the hair left out with 5.07 + 9 volume L'Oreal DiaRichesse.
4) Process for 45 minutes. Rinse.
5) Tone with 6GN Redken Shades EQ for 10 minutes.
6) Olaplex #2 for 5 minutes.
7) Shampoo, style.

Second session
1) Full head of balayage with L'Oreal Platinium Plus 40 volume with Olaplex.
2) Process for 45 minutes. Rinse.
3) Tone with 1/2 7v + 1/2 clear Redken Shades EQ for ten minutes.
4) Olaplex #2 for 5 minutes.
5) Shampoo, cut, style.

Third session
1) Partial head of balayage with L'Oreal Platinium Plus 40 volume with Olaplex.
2) Process for 30 minutes.
3) Rinse. Tone with 1/2 clear + 1/4 7v + 1/4 7nb Redken Shades EQ for 2 minutes.
4) Olaplex #2 for five minutes.
5) Shampoo, cut, style.
