Jon Alexander Frawley (@jonnystylez), a color and balayage specialist at Bangz Salon and Wellness Spa, Montclair, New Jersey, had a challenge. "My client came in with yellow highlights and a brassy broken base." Here he shares how he brought her to a more natural, lower maintenance shade:

Step 1: Select very fine, weaved pieces, leaving out about a half inch in between, and place on foil. Apply Davines Mask lightener with 15 volume in a V section pattern within the foils, placing all above the rounds of the head.

Step 2:  To all the color NOT in foils apply Wella Freelights with 35 volume.

Step 3: Process for 25 minutes and then rinse out the back. Process for an additional 15 minutes and then rinse the rest of the hair. Seal with Wella Blondor Seal and Care to even out porosity before toning.

Step 4: As a toner, apply equal parts Wella Color Touch 10/ and 10/6, with a ribbon inch of 8/81 all blended with 6 volume. Process for 15 minutes. Rinse and shampoo.
