Lauren Bennett (@hairbylaurenbennett) and colleague Lexie Johnson (@lexie_ashley) tag teamed for this color correction. The artists, based at Tantalum Salon, Meridian, Idaho, graduated in November of 2015, but are clearly not afraid of a challenge.

Backstory: This  client was previously red on the top and a level 6 (faded black) underneath. Her mom tried to correct at home and left the lightener on her scalp for over an hour ("surprised she had hair left and no scabs or blisters!") She tried toning a "test strip" at home as well, which resulted in the unwanted blue color.

Here the artists share how they saved this color:

Step 1: Apply TIGI Copyright Colour 3/0 gloss with TIGI 8.5 volume on the peek a boo. Process for 35 minutes.

Step 2: Cleanse the blue strip and the ends in the bowl with 1 oz of Wella Blondor lightener, 20 volume developer, and about 20 pumps of Bed Head Recharge shampoo (a clarifying shampoo.) Emulsify for about 20 minutes. Rinse and repeat the cleanse for an additional 10 minutes. Towel dry.

Step 3: To tone, apply 1/2 ounce TIGI 9/21 with 1/2 ounce 10/28 with 8.5 developer.  Process for 15 minutes. "We decided it wasn't the exact route we wanted to go. So we shampooed the toner out with Bed Head Recharge to get most of the violet out."  Towel dry.

Step 4: Apply Guy Tang 8sm and process for 20 minutes. Rinse and apply Bed Head Beach Freak Leave-In Conditioner. Finish with Kenra Blow Dry Spray.

"She left with a bit of a violet rooty look but she loved it and we warned her not to do her hair at home again!"
