New Year, New Ideas

Sometimes you need a push from someone else to spark a bright idea.

In 2013, we received this email from a salon owner: “Thanks for the great ideas in the bonus Holiday issue,” she wrote. “But I could really use something to help my staff and me stay healthier and SURVIVE at the holidays and all year ’round. I love what I do, but this work and schedule is hard on the body. And soul, too, sometimes. LOL!”

In response to this challenge, MODERN launched a Healthy Hairdresser column and e-letter in collaboration with City of Hope and salon industry leaders. Feedback was so positive in 2014 that we are taking the program to a new level.

Each month in 2015, we’ll issue a Healthy Hairdresser Challenge to inspire and guide you to take care of you by building career strength and stamina across body, spirit and business. You’ll find the challenge directions, related content and giveaways within the Healthy Hairdresser column, e-letters and online at modernsalon.com/healthy. The first challenge is explained on page 65 of this issue.

So start the new year by challenging yourself and seeking inspiration for your own bright idea—don’t miss Aloxxi Artistic Advisor Marilyn Cole’s cover work and feature, two pages of the most powerful and colorful dryers you could ever need, and new, men’s-focused education from Wahl in Modern Man. Here’s to 2015!
