Note From the Editor: Core Values

Each Year, Olivia Garden hosts a photoshoot to develop a look book of images and techniques created using their iconic brushes and tools. This year, they invited me on set to see, first-hand, the results.

It was wonderful to be with Anne Maza as she watched the vision for her brand get captured during the photoshoot.

Maza’s parents Jean and Micheline Rennette invented and patented the first silent blow dryer in 1979. In the ’80s, they invented a system of interlocking curlers without rubber bands that avoided the band mark across the hair. Olivia Garden then released its first brush in 1998 with a lifetime warranty against manufacturer’s defects. “We were the first to have a ceramic and ionic brush, combining both technology into the same brush,” Maza says.

It was an unbelievable experience to be surrounded by such top talent and on-brand vision, and to see how, even though five decades have passed and technology has dramatically shifted the possibilities, the brand stays true to its original vision of producing ergonomically correct tools that perform, retain heat, are durable and are built to make hairdressers’ jobs easier.
