Aveda has announced its 2010 Earth Month initiatives, which include the company's  ambitious goal to raise $3.5 million for Clean Water Rights. The effort is a call to action that is uniting the Aveda network of professionals and salon clients to help make clean water accessible to people everywhere.

Since Aveda began Earth Month campaigns in 1999, the company has raised more than $14million for environmental causes.

Additional efforts for 2010 include the sale of the Light the Way soy wax candle made with certified organic
French lavender. Aveda will donate all of the proceeds from the candle sales to its global Earth Month partner, Global Greengrants Fund.

During April, the Aveda network of salons and spas will plan local Walk for Water campaigns, which will be held around the world to raise awareness and funds for protecting clean water supplies.  Currently one out of seven people in the world do not have a clean supply of water. The walks will support the efforts of both Global Greengrants Fund and regional grassroots organizations.

Aveda Earth Month and Global Greengrants recently funded the drilling of a well in Madagascar near the area where Aveda sources its clove and cinnamon oils. The project funded the drilling of the well and the installation of a water tower and fire hydrant. The well became operational four months ago.
