John Paul DeJoria, the self-described “serial entrepreneur” will join season five of the ABC business competition show, Shark Tank as a guest shark this week. Best known as co-founder of Paul Mitchell Hair Care and The Patrón Spirits Company, DeJoria has also found success in  additional ventures from conflict-free diamonds to hand-built yachts.

A fervent believer that “America works,” John Paul can often be seen and heard in top business and news media outlets spreading this message and his motto, “Success Unshared Is Failure.”  As a guest 'Shark' he will be providing promising entrepreneurs the chance to turn their dreams into reality by making an investment in their future.

Angus Mitchell, son of co-founder of JPMS, Paul Mitchell, with John Paul DeJoria

On his first dive into the tank, DeJoria will listen to two men from St. Louis who have a line of safe, natural cleaning products, a New Yorker inspired by cups at frat parties who hopes for a $300K investment in his standard party cup with a hidden shot glass inside, an entrepreneur from Pleasanton, California with an electric, lightweight bodyboard he claims could be the hottest new thing in water sports, and an entrepreneur from Arcadia, Florida pitching a tented root cover for newly planted trees he claims will save farmers thousands of dollars in fuel and water.

“As a guest shark, I look forward to providing opportunities to future entrepreneurs to change our world for the better,” says DeJoria. “Our country still works, and success is possible when paired with determination.“

DeJoria’s rags-to-riches story exemplifies the American dream. With just $700 he started Paul Mitchel salon hair care brand, and later turned a passion into success by co-founding Patrón premium tequila.

DeJoria's initial guest appearance on Shark Tank will air on November 1st (9pm ET) on ABC (check local listings).

Bravo John Paul DeJoria!! Just watched you offer to help the amazing, ingenious and simple invention of the Florida farmer. You looked beyond the money and saw the potential of a product that would not only be good for farmers but for the planet as well. While the others looked for profit, you saw that the inventor himself was unwilling to take from farmers like himself, that are some of the hardest working people in our country. I have read that you are also active in environmental concerns, and you have the ability to reach so many that this man can't. I have never commented on anything I have seen on T.V. but I had to say how refreshing it was to see someone like yourself see the much bigger picture of an opportunity than just how much money you make. I hope that working with this man may be one of your more rewarding endeavours.

As Leyla said, it was very refreshing to have John Paul DeJoria help this heart driven man with his invention to help our farmers. Our farmers are the salt of the earth and for this heart driven man to be more in the mode of service and not just profit was SO REFRESHING to see. I was moved to tears. And just when you think it can't get any better, JP with acknowledged the inventor and purpose and chose to help him help the farmers. This was the best Shark Tank ever!! Real people helping real people!

Ditto to all the comments above. It was so touching to see the hardworking farmer and his ingenious creation and the wealthy entrepreneur connect.
